Neversink, New York — ever heard of it? Tucked deep in the Catskills, it’s a town that sounds like a fairytale and feels like one to. This past weekend, my boyfriend Dan, my younger brother Sean, and our cousins Lizzy and Nate (all of us in our 20s) escaped to a cozy Airbnb cabin on a private creek for a much-needed break from the noise — and the result was nothing short of magical.
A Place That Heals More Than Just Your Lungs
Sometimes you don’t realize how heavy things have been until you feel light again. I won’t go into too many personal details, but spending time with my cousins and brother — away from old family dynamics and in the calm of the woods — was more healing than I expected. Our parents come from a strict, heavy-handed upbringing, and we’ve started to realize how much of that was passed down to us. But out there in the woods, we were just… kids again. Laughing, cooking, hiking, healing.
Hiking Highlights in Neversink & Beyond
Over the weekend, we clocked over 10 miles of trails.
We tackled Slide Mountain, the highest peak in the Catskills, which was challenging, buggy, and absolutely breathtaking at the summit overlook.

We also did the Red Hill Fire Tower Trail, which was shorter but equally stunning — and we stumbled upon the clearest natural spring water I’ve ever tasted. Sorry Switzerland, but this spring wins. Hands down.
If you're a nature-lover looking for Catskills hikes with a view, these two trails are musts.
Cozy Cabin Life (With a Creekside Twist)
Our Airbnb sat on a quiet creek with acres of land all to ourselves. Between bonfires, fishing, swimming, and cooking eggs and bacon under the stars, it felt like something out of a storybook. We even made s’mores the old-school way, and yes — we watched movies and played games all night. One of my favorite parts? I brought my cat, Wednesday. Watching my cousins dote on her just added another layer of joy.
We mostly cooked at the cabin, but we grabbed insanely good sandwiches from the little general store down the road. And we made a quick trip to see the Neversink Reservoir, which is as peaceful and beautiful as it sounds.
This trip reminded me how important it is to make space for joy — to hike until your legs ache, laugh until your stomach hurts, and say yes to the little things that make life feel full again. If you ever find yourself needing a reset, I highly recommend looking up a little town called Neversink. You might just find a piece of yourself there.
With Love,
This looks like a wonderful trip. I’m definitely going to have to put this on my list. Thanks so much for sharing.
